Must have had a rough crowd in last night. It is a shame to see such a pub in such a bad state. It was always packed out on match days but once the rugby moved then this was the start of the demise of the pub.

A lovely old pub reduced to that state. What a damned shame! I remember it buzzing on a Sunday lunchtime with the influx of men after the 11 a.m. Mass at St John's opposite.

Mick, is that your new home?

What a sad sight. It puts me in mind of The Marie Celeste ship, with all its passengers gone. So many pubs have gone the same way. I have a photo on my wall of my Auntie Sally walking down the ramp at a local pit when she was a pit-brow lass, and I believe that it once hung on the wall in The Griffin.

This is such a lovely building which has been vandalised. I noticed a few weeks ago the door was open and it took a while for the door to be locked and wood nailed across to stop access. After that the window at the front was smashed. It should have been boarded up as soon as it closed. It could still be broken into…horrible folk who are bent on destruction.

Two weeks ago , where I live , three scumbags , jumped my sisters fence ( according to a neighbour) and kicked in the glass of her large patio door trying to rob her home . Something happened which caused them to flee and not enter .
Being the age of many on here , Is was hugely distressing for her as you can imagine . It is now boarded up
In my day , the very thought of doing this , simply never entered our minds . Now , sadly , we have vermin , who will do this in groups . What in heaven’s name are we becoming , when three able young men , will attack an elderly ladies home ? What is the satisfaction or glory in that ? Pray can someone tell me!

It is terrible Marky..and very frightening for anybody living alone...I hope her neighbours will look out for her now...it will reassure her a bit...I can't print what I think of the so and so's on here.

It's Power, Marky. It's why these cowards beat children, animals and the elderly, because their victims can't fight back. Put these cowardly louts amongst a gang of men who are capable of giving them a good hiding and they would run a mile, but this country is too soft to do anything about it except to give them a slap on the wrist and an "ASBO", which they count as a medal and show off about to their equally cowardly mates. The ordinary people in this country know what needs to be done but have no power to do it.....the people who HAVE the power to do it WON'T. Simple as that,
