Brass Band Contest 2024

Started by: mortarmillbill (932)

Could someone provide a link to whitfridaybrass.org

This is the Tameside Whit Friday Brass Band Contest which is on Friday 24th May 2024.

Last year 60 brass bands took part in this annual contest.

There may not be many brass bands left in the Wigan area but there are still lots of brass bands still playing elsewhere.

Tameside Whit Friday Brass Band Contest
Friday 24th May 2024

Please Note: Due to ongoing works at the ground Stalybridge Celtic FC, Stalybridge will not be hosting band contests in 2024, they are really looking forward to getting back in the mix in 2025 and beyond.

Montie, I can confirm the Greenfields Brass concert is going ahead this year on Whit Friday, I'll be going IF, the bloody trains are not buggering things up like they did last year,

Tomorrow is the Greenfields Band concert and, I'm going to decide whether the weather is good enough to enjoy the day, It starts at 4pm at greenfields so If, I'm going, I'll be catching the Stalybridge train at 12.10 at Wallgate there's a change at S/Bridge to Greenfields which should get us there in plenty time for a pint or two before the parades begin,

Maybe I am a bit old-fashioned, but I find listening to a brass band rather comforting. Don't know why exactly but, as the wife of a soldier years ago, I used to love listening to the bands on parade.

I also enjoyed the brass bands playing during Walking Days.

Last one I saw was when we went to Clitheroe and, in the grounds of the castle, there was a brass band playing, but they were playing up-to-date music from the charts and they were brilliant.
